Who is God?

I can relate to this. For years, I have been on a soul-search or a spiritual path to supposedly find my "life's purpose" and understand/discover myself. I tried Christianity but I could never develop a relationship with Jesus. I am a spiritual being and this "works for me".
How does this relate to me? I don't think that following a God is necessarily folly or foolish but for me, it "never worked". In my heart, I knew that because I was trying too hard, it obviously was not meshing well with me.
I started my spiritual path last year but this took the backseat to my studies and the family politics taking place at home. When my studies were officially over, I delved deeper into my spiritual path, often taking eccentric turns when ill-advised and I discovered fascinating things about myself!
What Drizzt said makes complete sense to me. We listen to our hearts, regardless of the source of inspiration, direction, etc. The guidance given by our hearts can be based on many things like your spiritual connection with God (whichever it is), with the Universe, or it can be that you just understand or trust yourself well enough to act on your instincts. My "life's purpose" can be translated into where I see myself and how I think I could better utilise my strengths for the benefit of others. This interpretation could be guided by whatever principles to which I adhere (e.g. for me, it is the guidance of the Angels, Spirit Guides, the Universe, Buddhism, and my Own).
Montolio (the person to whom Drizzt is speaking) later on says that although you may call your heart your God, you can also give it a name e.g. Jesus, Archangel Michael, or in casu Mielikki. So, put simply, we are satisfying and simultaneously merging two segments of our internal conflict: adhering to our own principles and those of our Supreme Being.
