Chasing the Moon

31 July 2012

Tonight, the Moon is at its fullest. It is surrounded by a speckled yet beautifully smooth array of clouds. A silvery glimmer has been draped across the Earth's landscape, which is as a result of the moonlight dancing with the clouds. I am left with an alluring and charismatic sense of intensity...

While the Moon is out as it is tonight, it acts as the Queen of the Sky. She owns it and all of its inhabitants; she owns the Earth and can mesmerise anyone who dares to look at her for longer than is necessary. Admire her, you may, but show the woman respect and she will nurture you as a Mother would a child...

I often speak to the Moon in the hopes that one day, she will show me the journal she kept of the times she had heard my ramblings and mused to even comment on it. I do this because it is calming and for no other reason - well, no other legitimate reason.

I would never underestimate or even downplay another person's belief... so I will apply this same value to my own.

I often feel as though the moon is within my reach; that I may grasp it any time should I need to do so. Mind you, I also believe that the moon is the eye of the universe, watching over our planet and every other planet that may have a habitat of its own. This eye is quite an old eye, with it's hail damage and it's shabby appearance, not to mention its intense concentration during the nights.

Its brother, the Sun, is the Twin. They have each been tasked with protecting the universe and its inhabitants. Their shifts rotate and rarely do they openly speak to one another.

I once, haply, had the opportunity of noticing how distant they appear together to an outsider and yet there is this mutual understand between them of their duties and responsibilities. It was in the early hours of the morning where the moon was looking rather tired and the sun invigorated and ready to begin it's shift. Regardless, neither of them can afford nor risk to spend time together. The moon has it's phases, sometimes he is on full alert, his highest guard is up. At other times, he is on a mission of his own, entrusting the protection of our universe to the blind eye of the sun.

But it is quite obvious that the moon and the sun, whilst it may appear that they are chalk and cheese, have a mutual understanding and trusting relationship. Why else would the moon entrust upon the sun the safety of its planet during the day? If one made a close observation of the sky in the early hours of the morning, one would notice that sometimes the moon is out when the sun makes its appearance. I would imagine that he does this as a matter of material significance to maintain a firm understanding and trusting relationship with the sun. The moon cannot only be within my reach. It is like a hole in the evening or a piercing in the morning sky.

Driving on the roads, en route home from work, I have seen the moon at its utmost beauty as it flirts with the dusk sky and teases the midnight movement. This chemistry is spectacular and amongst my most favourite characteristics of this planet...
